A day at Mayhew
At Butternut Box, we love to help any dog, anywhere, anytime. That’s why for every furry customer that signs up with us, we donate a much-needed meal to one less fortunate. The animal welfare organisation Mayhew share our ethos in caring for all pooches by working to make a positive and lasting difference to the welfare of dogs. Relying entirely on funds by public donations, we have been a long-time supporter of Mayhew and their spirit in providing the highest standard of companion-animal care.
The broad range of incredible work that Mayhew undertake expands beyond the walls of their London-based shelter. They strive to make an impact on a global scale, cultivating the value of animal welfare through international veterinary and community programmes. The educational initiative is to tackle the underlying causes of animal neglect, cruelty, overpopulation and abandonment. This is to encourage the change in attitude towards animals, and ultimately stop the demand of having to enter a shelter environment.
It was when visiting the heart of the company in Kensal Green, however, that the care, love and compassion for the team’s mission was most evident. They consider animals to have a ‘value beyond economic measure’, which is proven in the charity’s dedication to provide a setting that is home-like, stimulating and comfortable. Additionally, they offer low-cost neutering, microchipping and vaccinations to all dogs, and for those that are brought in (sometimes unwanted or abused), it is this exact enrichment that encourages the wagging of countless tails.
Mayhew pride themselves on being a re-homing charity, so the need to find a dog’s forever-home that is both responsible and considerate is imperative. When observing the first ever meeting between Rolo the Staffy and his new pet-parents, the bond between the two was unquestionable. By coming together in Mayhew’s own sensory garden, Rolo was presented with the perfect environment to showcase his active and playful side. His adopters were both spirited and affectionate individuals, making it a match made in heaven.
This is the result of a meticulous and dedicated team who work around the clock to ensure all pooches receive the best care possible.
