Remembering October 20th

There are moments so ingrained in our consciousness that no strength of will could ever erase. October 20th, 2020 is one of those moments. Collectively as a Nation, we watched in horror as our fellow citizens suffered in pain, fear, and death at the Lekki Toll Gate. This tragic event was one of several horrifying incidents in which so many innocent lives across the country were sadly lost.

Moments like this should not be forgotten. They should be seared so deep in our minds that they fuel us to do more everyday. A reminder that when we have the power to change things, we should, we must. It’s a cosmic calling.

At Helicarrier, we are choosing to remember tomorrow and are declaring a company holiday. A moment for people to choose to mourn, recharge, and process the tragedy however they deem fit. Tomorrow, we give space for solemn moments to share with all our fellow Nigerians who are connected with us in this pain.

Today, this remembrance is symbolic. But hopefully it’s an inspiring reminder that we might have a future where young people care and young leaders empathise.
