If Ethereum had a birth certificate, it would be dated 30 July 2015. This was the day the first decentralized platform called Ethereum was launched for the general public.

Today the price for this leading altcoin is over US $318 per coin, and according to CoinMarketCap its capitalization exceeds $35 billion.
Prior to its fifth birthday Ethereum has shown some significant growth: last week this coin went up 45%, surpassing Bitcoin’s price rally. Analysts say this was due to the increasing popularity of DeFi and the associated trading boom.

ETH is celebrating its fifth birthday on an upside, in anticipation of the launch of Ethereum 2.0 — a major update to the Ethereum network due to be released sometime in 2020.
