Uber Over All

The Promise Of Flying Taxis

--

Maybe Something That Looks Like This?

So, I read today that Uber is partnering with NASA to create the software that the ride-sharing company would use to regulate the routes that their flying taxis would take.

The talk of four passenger, 200 MPH flying taxis crossing LA in 2020, and maybe even earlier in Dallas/Fort Worth is an interesting notion.

The testing is already moving along — and involved drones being tested by the FAA in Phase 1, during 2015. 2016 marked Phase 2, which was carried out over long distances with sparse populations. 2018, Phase 3, will see the test move to areas which have moderate populations. Phase 4, which is scheduled for 2019 sees the action moving to high density urban areas.

Maybe we will get the flying car we were promised, but I doubt that it is going to be driven by the current fleet of Uber drivers. It is suggested that Uber are leaning towards drone models that will pilot themselves.

It may be a while before I trust myself to the service, but it is definitely something that piques the interest and gets the sci-fi fan in me pretty excited.
