As an act of solidarity and unison with Britain and President Donald Trump’s decision, around 14 members of the EU decided to expel their Russian diplomats on Monday.
This came up after the recent nerve poisoning of an ex-spy on British soil. Blaming the Russians for the attack, specifically the Kremlin, the British expelled 23 Russian diplomats from the UK. Following this action, Trump ordered the expulsion of 60 Russians from the U.S. and closed the Russian consulate in Seattle
The Western countries expelled Russian diplomats because of the poisoning that took place on British soil which harmed an ex-spy along with his daughter. EU members have taken a united stance to take retributive measures against Russia for the attack. At the beginning of this month, both the spy and his daughter were found unconscious in southwest England and are still in critical condition in a London hospital. According to the European Council President Donald Tusk, Germany, France and Poland will also expel Russian Diplomats. Ukraine has also expelled around 13 Russian diplomats, a move it announced at the same time as EU nations.
Russia has completely denied being responsible for the attack and the Kremlin has retaliated to the British expulsion by ordering the expulsion of 60 Britons from Russia. Britain announced that it would welcome the public support from the EU after the joint announcement. Theresa May, spokesperson for British Prime Minister stated that the response of the bloc would be extremely positive.
