Why do you think it’s important to learn about other cultures?

Cultures vary from each other based on time, members, and environments. Therefore, there are three factors that I think it’s important to learn about other cultures. First of all, it can help you avoid embarrassment. For example, Indian people traditionally use their right hands to have meals, and use their left hands as toilet paper. So if you mix up, it will become extremely awkward. Second, it shows your politeness and respect. In Taiwan, it’s acceptable to eat as long as you walk down the street, but in Japan, you’d better finish your food beside the vendor. The last reason is that it can help you widen your horizons and renew your thoughts. Just like tattoos, instead of considering them as a symbol of gangster, people nowadays take them as an expression of body autonomy in Taiwan. Because each culture is unique and charming, we need to treat them with a sincere and admirable heart.
