I come from a quite big family with 21 members. As far as I can remember, we won’t spend all the time with each other. However Chinese holidays always bring us together, and there are some unique traditions while we are celebrating them.

Every year we have Tomb Sweeping Day like other Chinese families, but our family special tradition is that we split up the works by gender.

Boys take the responsibility for tomb-sweeping and girls go to traditional market to buy steamed spring roll. After that, we will worship our ancestors and my grandparents share the stories of our family when we enjoy our handmade spring rolls.

We also have the family reunion on the Chinese New Year, children are excited to get the red envelopes from adults and adults are looking forward to playing the Mahjong together.

Many families have traditions that last for generations. Moreover, family culture could help us build stronger bonds.

If you could start a new tradition in your family what would it be?

If I could start a new tradition in my family, it would be a family culture that create positive memories. Such as Family Singing Time, we could sing whenever we want because I believe singing could relieve our pressures and we could learn songs from different generations.
