No matter which generation you are, or where you come from, sharing a meal is what we have in common. Sharing a meal is so much more than eating food; instead, we share our thoughts, experiences, and emotions with others.

From my point of view, there are three reasons why people share a meal, even though they are from different cultures.

1. A chance to connect

Sharing a meal is a way that people can promote better relationships with others, such as families, classmates, or colleagues, etc. For example, at ITI, English group members change every term, so we will have a meal together in the beginning of the term, which is an opportunity to know more about one another.

2. Catching up with people you care

Nowadays people use social media to keep in touch with families or friends. However, there’s nothing can replace face-to-face conversation. I think real-time conversation can make people willing to express their feelings because someone who they care or love is sitting in front of them instead of a device, especially when you need someone to keep you company.

3. Create and Share Memories

Sharing a meal doesn’t just mean eating food; instead, it’s a group activity. During eating, you might experience something interesting, which is a way you can create a memory with others. Moreover, you can share your memory which can be dramatic, serious, or funny, which can bring people together.

To sum up, sharing a meal has a good effect on individuals, families, companies, and societies because it can foster better relationships among one another and boost the unity of a group.
