That’s a wrap!
We’re taking in the sounds of Podcast Movement in sunny Anaheim, CA. Here our VP of Digital Content, Stephanie Vance, shares her favorite moments from day two.
Favorite panel: Proven Social Media Strategies for Podcasters
Todd Cochrane, CEO of Blubrry and longtime podcaster, imparted his knowledge on social media and networking for podcast growth to a packed house. By the time he started his talk, it was standing room only, and limited standing room at that. Podcasters of all kinds are clearly hungry to learn more about what they can do to increase their exposure. Number one on the list? Blogging. More pointedly, blogging with SEO in mind. As he put it, “you podcast for your listeners, but you write for Google.” Because of the amount of content he and his team produce, and their focus on SEO, Todd boasts site traffic in the hundreds of thousands, a portion of which subscribe to his podcasts. Daily. He stressed the need to be a subject matter expert in whatever field you focus on, which includes giving talks, attending and networking at trade shows, and leveraging those relationships for content and promotion. To sum up a decidedly detail-heavy 45 minutes, Todd boiled his strategies down to three words essential to any podcaster’s success: exposure, authority, and engagement.
Favorite moment:
It was a beautiful day in Anaheim, and I found myself chatting with fellow attendees poolside in the afternoon. I heard stories of triumph, failure, and new ideas, all with the winking humor of professional content creators. When one person pointed out a girl on the other side of the pool who’d racked up 30,000 downloads on her first episode, his voice had a mix of envy and awe. But podcasters are a supportive, not jealous bunch, and the envy quickly turned to laughter when he compared her stats to his own.
