TLDR: The new Tray App makes composing snippets a cinch and is accessible via your OS’s tray area or keyboard shortcut (default: Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+Alt+K). Use its Clipboard Manager to quickly convert clipboard content into snippets.

Download it with the Cacher Desktop client.

While Cacher’s extensions for VSCode, Atom and Sublime have been very popular, we couldn’t tackle every editor out there. Thats why we decided to integrate the Cacher snippet experience into your OS instead.

Accessible Anywhere

The new Cacher Tray app sits alongside your other oft-used utilities, in the macOS/Windows/Linux tray area. To open it, click the Cacher icon:

You can also open the Tray App via a configurable global shortcut. By default, this is:

  • ⌘+Shift+Alt+K on macOS
  • Ctrl+Shift+Alt+K on Windows/Linux

To configure the global shortcut (or to turn it off), open the Settings dialog from the top-right corner of the Tray App:

Clipboard Manager

Programmers often copy code into the clipboard only to realize later on it could be re-used. That’s why we built the Tray App’s Clipboard Manager. When enabled, it holds a history of the most recent 100 copied text items from your clipboard. There is a search bar to filter down the entries. Once an item is selected, there are actions to:

  • Copy the item back to the clipboard
  • Create the text as a new snippet

Quick Create

Users often want to create a new snippet without having to open up the full Cacher desktop window. From the Tray App’s New Snippet tab, you can now quickly compose a snippet, assign labels, picker a code reviewer (if using team code reviews) and save to either a personal or team library. It’s all the functionality of the full snippet editor without the extraneous details.
