Put It in Writing

cry for me, my love
but put it in writing —
for a broken heart
without tear-stained pages
is a waste of sleepless nights
why fall in love at all
if the pain does not produce
lines of poetry
why open your soul
and welcome another
if the tears do not form
a remorseful love letter.
cry for me, my love
cry some poetry for me
or sing me a sad sad song
remind me why I should be alone
but don’t go without writing it down.
