Saying Goodbye

A poem.

saying goodbye to you
is like trying to catch my breath
watching you walk away
each time
remains my greatest regret

I can make an attempt
to bottle your scent
to trace your touch
to engrain your kiss
but it leaves me
just as you do
with very little left

the most painful part
of not knowing
when you’ll return
to hold me close again
is not having a breath
until you return
not having peace
until you are near

but every moment
of uncertainty
is worth
our every tear

for a love like this,
to know it even once
I’d trade it just the same
for one more glimpse
of your colored eyes
or to hear you say my name
