Millfield School in Somerset is the UK’s largest boarding school, and presumably one of the largest in the world. With impeccable grounds, unparalleled sports facilities and a fantastic view of Glastonbury Tor it is truly a special place. Facilities for tennis parents visiting outside term-time (during Covid!) are inevitably less fantastic.

The details here comes from an experience during August 2020 with social distancing measures clearly still a priority.

Coffee: No refreshment options available. Unclear if there might be a vending machine in one of the buildings as there was no access. The town centre is only 500m away but that is through the school which is not allowed so only practical option is a 5 minute drive.

Parking: Large school car park 400m for courts

Space: Informal shelter was available in the cricket pavilion, with limited space. There were plugs but no wifi. Vodafone phone signal good.

Courts: 7+ hard outdoor; 3 indoor.

Viewing: Easy viewing from the sides of the outdoor courts. Limited viewing from outside of indoor courts. Unclear internal viewing once that’s allowed but given quality of facility I would expect it is good.

Further afield: Plenty to visit as a tourist, but nothing on foot aside from a country-side walk

Overnight accommodation: Surprisingly limited. Premier Inn 10 mins away.
