Claude and Perplexity Launch Desktop Apps, Competing with ChatGPT

New Desktop Apps for AI Services: Claude and Perplexity Join ChatGPT

Recent developments in AI-driven applications have introduced new desktop options for users:

  • Anthropic’s Claude: A new desktop app for the Claude chatbot has been released. It competes directly with ChatGPT, offering strengths in software development. The app is currently in beta and free to download, with subscription options for advanced users.
  • Perplexity’s Native App: Perplexity launched a desktop app for its AI-driven search service. Users can enter queries from anywhere on their desktop, ask follow-up questions, and engage in conversations about search results. The app is free, with subscription plans available for heavy users.
  • ChatGPT Updates: OpenAI has updated its ChatGPT Mac app to include an advanced voice feature. A Windows version has recently been launched, following its initial Mac-only release.

While Perplexity’s focus on search previously set it apart from ChatGPT, OpenAI has introduced SearchGPT, a search-oriented variant that is not yet available in the desktop app.

All these applications previously offered mobile and web versions, but now they provide native desktop experiences for users.
