Caixa Capital invests in new Life Sciences and Cleantech startups

Startups C2C-NewCap and Permeability secure €100K pre-seed investment

Lisbon, April 2016 — Caixa Capital announced its investment in technology-based Portuguese startups C2C-NewCap and Permeability. C2C-NewCap is developing a new generation of performance-boosted batteries for industrial vehicles. Permeability is developing a simple diagnostic for intestinal permeability.
The companies have each received a €100K pre-seed investment from Caixa Capital to support technology development and commercialization, having been selected by Caixa Capital from the participants of ACT by COTEC, one of the main Portuguese accelerator.
C2C-NewCap is a startup developing a new generation of quick-charging, long-life batteries for industrial vehicles. The first batteries developed will be a more efficient and greener alternative to lead batteries used in electric forklifts. The research behind the boosted performance of C2C-NewCap’s battery was conducted at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Lisbon.
Permeability is startup which will commercialize a medical kit for the diagnosis of intestinal permeability, a biomarker for early disease states such as diabetes and obesity. The kit will allow for simple, accurate and non-invasive diagnosis. The underlying technology used by Permeability was developed at the Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology at the Universidade de Coimbra, in Biocant Park and the Chronic Diseases Research Center at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
