Why I love prenatal yoga

I am a huge fan of prenatal yoga.

From the day you find out you are expecting to the day you deliver, yoga has been shown to improve sleep, reduce stress and help prepare your body for labor and delivery by promoting flexibility, muscle strength and stamina. Your body will become more comfortable over time with positions that could be used during labor and your muscles will become conditioned to support you in these positions.

Prenatal yoga may help decrease conditions such as low back pain, carpal tunnel and pregnancy-induced hypertension. It can lessen nausea and may even reduce the risk for pre-term delivery or intrauterine growth restriction.

If you choose to make your yoga practice a social one, there are plenty of opportunities to share with other moms and support one another through your pregnancy journey. I found prenatal yoga to be a forced break in my busy day; a time to listen to my breath, slow down and connect with the little life that was growing and I would soon meet.

Prenatal yoga is safe for those of all physical abilities (as long as your doctor hasn’t restricted you from activity) and provides safe modifications as your belly grows and to manage any symptoms that may be bothering you that day. I used many of the techniques I learned in prenatal yoga during my labor and delivery and was glad I had taken the time to train my body and mind. For the physical and emotional benefits of yoga during pregnancy, I recommend you give it a shot!

I love talking about pregnancy, parenting, and nutrition for your little ones.
