Geomagnetic Excursion or Pole Shift? Doomsday Disaster or Not?

The strength of Earth’s magnetic field could drop to almost nothing within a few decades. Should we be worried?

The Earth’s magnetic poles aren’t at a fixed location; they move about. And seemingly at random, the polarity can swap. Every scientist knows this is because of the complicated dynamic inner churning of molten iron deep inside the planet.

The experts on this subject say we won’t see a pole reversal in our lives, and neither will our great-grandchildren because the process takes thousands of years.

But they are WRONG.

They will tell you the last time the Earth’s poles reversed was about 780,000 years ago.

For example, the US National Centres for Environmental Information says much the same as NASA here:

The time intervals between reversals have fluctuated widely, but average about 300,000 years, with the last one taking place about 780,000 years ago.
