Why I Don’t Know Shit and Neither Does Doc Rivers

Let’s face it Clippers fans, Doc Rivers was the worst GM and potentially the worst coach in the NBA over the past 4 years. In his highly touted arrival in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles “faithful” were quick to welcome Doc to Los Angeles. Their hopes of bringing another championship to Los Angeles were reborn after the Lakers turbulent few years. But what has Doc been able to accomplish in his 4 seasons with the Clippers?

Let me tell you, absolutely nothing. After becoming the Head Coach of the Clippers AND the Vice President of Basketball Operations, he has yet to have anything of substance to show for it. Sure he gave the Clippers a franchise-record 57 wins, but he has never been able to make it out of the second round of the playoffs. With an all-star cast of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan this shouldn’t seem impossible. Sure he was able to do it with the Celtics, but as former Boston Celtics player, Big Baby Davis, put it he was just “lucky.”

“ Because what Doc had in ’08 was special and he was lucky as hell … Lucky as hell. The year before that they was wearing trash bags … But then the next year they win it, now he is one of the best coaches ever? I’m just not feeling that. You know what I mean? You give credit to KG. You give credit to Paul Pierce. You give credit to Ray Allen. Those are the guys who made sure whatever Doc needed to be done, got done.”

The only thing of substance that he has done is giving his garbage of a player son an $11 million a year contract. Let me repeat that.. He gave his own son, Austin Rivers, who’s career stats are 8.4 ppg, 2.0 rpg, and 2.1 apg, a 3 year deal worth over $33 million. If this happened at any other place of business, there would be more lawsuits than Jonathan Lee Riches. I’m no fan of LaVar Ball, but even he hasn’t done anything that outrageous (at least yet). This blatant nepotism has caused Chris Paul, the face of the franchise, to leave the team and join conference rivals, Houston Rockets.

Now that Doc has been ousted from the front office, hopefully the Clippers “faithful” will see some improvement on the court, but with a power forward who’s more interested in Kia commercials than basketball and a center who can’t make a basket thats not a dunk, we’ll see how the team faces up against a more competitive than ever west.
