The Carmel Mission, officially known as Mission San Carlos Borroméo del Río Carmelo, is a historic Spanish mission located in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Founded on June 3, 1770, by Father Junípero Serra, it is one of the 21 missions established by the Spanish in Alta California during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The mission holds significant historical and cultural importance, serving as both a religious and secular center during the Spanish colonization of California. The original mission complex underwent several reconstructions due to natural disasters, including earthquakes, and the present-day mission represents a blend of architectural styles, combining both Spanish and Moorish influences.

One of the key features of the Carmel Mission is the Basilica Church, a beautifully preserved structure with a distinctive bell tower. The interior is adorned with religious artifacts, colorful paintings, and a serene atmosphere that invites reflection. The church has been the site of numerous religious ceremonies, including the burial place of Father Serra, who played a pivotal role in the establishment of the California missions.
