Libertarian getting things done in Calimesa, CA

“Everybody said ‘that’s impossible, it’s too expensive, you can’t do it,’” said Libertarian Mayor Jeff Hewitt, “What we’re doing is setting up a sustainable and stable department going into the future. We’re going to set up the best possible services and living within our means.”

Starting in January 2018, the city of Calimesa will have its own volunteer Fire Department. This was achieved through the direct efforts of Jeff Hewitt, long time Libertarian Party member, and current Region 4 representative to the Libertarian National Party.

It all started when the County of Riverside, which until now managed Fire Department services for the city, imposed a requirement that the city add an additional firefighter per shift. This had nothing to do with response time, or a material need for more staffers, only as a need to add more employees. The result would have added an additional $600k /year to the cities already strained $5mill yearly budget.

Jeff stepped in with an innovative idea to create their own Fire Department, and leave the County behind. Calimesa will now see a net drop in Fire Department costs, and and increase in service to the community!

Jeff Hewitt now sets his sights on a Riverside Board of Directors seat in 2018, so he may bring his innovative and fresh look and local government to a wider audience.
