Call Me a Theorist

Anatomy of a Toxic Relationship: Part III

by Anonymous

I left because the things you said were not okay

no matter how much you tried to justify yourself.

I left because I was tired of waiting for your approval.

I don’t need anyone’s approval but my own.

I left because I was tired of waking up with the feeling that someone was sitting on my chest.

That feeling is gone now.

I left because I was tired of feeling “crazy.”

That feeling is gone now.

I left because despite what you said, I knew deep down that I deserved more.

Now I have more.

I left because I didn’t need a reason other than the fact that I wanted out.

Despite what you said.

I left because I don’t owe you my happiness, my freedom, or even my explanations.

I left and I survived.

I left and now I am free.
