Dental care for everyone: why we’ve invested in Adent

Here’s my problem. I really don’t like going to the dentist.

Why is that relevant?

Because I know I’m not the only one.

  • According to the American Dental Association, more than 50% of adults did not visit the dentist within the last year.
  • At the same time, according to a recent survey, 81% of individuals say their smile is unattractive, and 42% say that their smile is the first thing they want to change about themselves.
  • Whilst, more than 1 out of 2 people have untreated dental conditions — as reported by the WHO.

Dental care today suffers from a broken system that is not easily accessible, is inconvenient and leaves people behind. Yet, the market remains largely under-digitized and under-served, which has an impact on people’s lives.

There is a real opportunity to shape the industry’s evolution. Those were our first thoughts when we heard Richard and Thøger pitch to us the idea of a smartphone-only dental scan. We listened carefully to the two brothers’ highly methodical and strategic approach to the problem: transforming the way people think of their dental health.

“Gentlemen, you had my curiosity … but now you have my attention.”

The digital dental care industry in Europe alone is expected to increase to EUR 1.4 billion in 2027. Some of the major drivers of the growth can be seen in changing consumer habits — with personalized care being at the heart of most customers, and vanity driving purchasing and treatment choices. Adent Health is tapping into these changes, by challenging the one-size-fit-all dental care. And thus, allowing users to personalize their dental self-care to their particular mouth profile based on the scan results.

In specialty settings, like dentistry, the frequency of care is maximum every 3 to 6 months. So, finding an alternative way to have people check their teeth on a habitual basis can have a huge impact. Adent wants to do so by lowering the barriers to entry, and thus creating an engaging and viral way to keep track of your dental status.

We believe Adent is uniquely positioned between the consumer and the professional spheres, leveraging its AI scan to create engagement at a low CAC and direct people to specific products & services. Pretty much every venture funded D2C dental care startup in multiple categories is a potential customer/affiliate partner for Adent.

Are you attempting to change the future of health and wellness? We’d like to hear from you.
