We share this article written by Alejandra García, inspired by her participation in the CofiBlocks Launch Event supported by RefiSpring, Climate Collective y Celo.

Cambiatus co-founder, Karla Córdoba-Brenes, announced on her social networks a very interesting meeting on Saturday, September 17, on the slopes of the Poás Volcano, to talk about Regenerative Finance (ReFi), collaborative businesses (DAOs), NFTs, social currencies on Blockchain and drink good coffee.

Thanks to the support from Cambiatus and ReFiSpring.

Among several of us who attended the celebration of the Ethereum Merge in Costa Rica, we planned to attend this activity as well, resulting in an unforgettable and inspiring experience.

We deeply appreciate the invitation and the opportunity to witness the technological evolution that is being applied in the country to promote modern collaborative businesses.

Starting at 10:00 am we were able to taste coffee produced at the farm where the Doka Estate convention center and the largest coffee plantation in Costa Rica are located.

And after some participatory activities to get to know a little better each of the participants, Omar Hurtado, CofiBlocks co-founder, told us how he started this project, we learned about his story and thus he proved to us that he is a living example that the adoption of technology It is possible from the moment we are ready to learn, wherever we are from.

Omar Hurtado is one of CofiBlocks co-founders, alongside Karla Córdoba-Brenes and Ranulfo Paiva Sobrinho from Cambiatus

“Money is an agreement made by a community to accept a standardized item that serves as a medium of exchange,” as Karla Córdoba and Ranulfo Paiva explained in their book New Money for Sustainability, according to an interview by Krissia Chacón published on March 28. January 2020.

In short, CofiBlocks aim to facilitate the exchange of products and services within a group of coffee farmers and coffee lovers to promote joint development.

Through subscriptions to receive the excellent Costa Rican coffee, rewards for learning and actively participating in the community, collecting art and dynamizing this complementary currency is how it is planned to start.

“This is a pioneering collaborative business, focused on connecting small coffee farmers directly with people who love coffee, roasters, designers, mills and other members of the traditional coffee community in Costa Rica. All its members will share decision-making and financial benefits from the sale of coffee, while promoting coffee production in the most traditional regions using the best of the ReFi world”, as explained by its co-creators.

The group of attendees was diverse, members of AsoBlockchain CR, coffee producers, creatives, computer scientists and business developers were present. In front of this complete community, the pilot experience was launched and those who like it can collaborate in its co-design.

A few years ago Karla and Ranulfo, together with a couple of other experts, wrote about the creation of currencies for sustainability: Beyond the Scheme of Payment for Ecosystem Services: Building Money for Sustainability”, and although this is not the first community that they develop, we are glad that this approach has come to evolve to what they propose to us today with CofiBlocks

To learn more about blockchain technology applied to projects that generate social impact, we recommend contacting Cambiatus and learning about all their projects.

From U P º we will continue to follow up on the next advances of this and other notable proposals.
