We believe that we can make the biggest impact by building and sustaining a strong understanding of how our users are using the platform, what goals they’re hoping to achieve, and where we can better support them across their journeys to English mastery.

To that end, our team in Japan recently surveyed and interviewed our students in Japan to learn more about their experiences with us. We asked about what stood out to them about Cambly as a platform and how they recognized their progress over time. Here are a few of their responses!*

Convenient to use

  • It’s great to meet a native English-speaking tutor as easily as simply opening your smartphone between work and housework.” — Maruko
  • “It’s convenient. You can talk anywhere, you can cancel relatively flexibly (it’s best not to do it), you can record and review lessons. It’s easy to review later because Cambly sends texts and messages. I especially like it because the tutors teach in a casual atmosphere.” — Masako
  • “It’s the quality and quantity of tutors. There are many good tutors so, if you do a few lessons, you can find a tutor that suits you. Cambly also has a recording function and makes it easy to review.” — Daifuku
  • “The lesson reservation system is easy to understand. There are many instructors; you can choose the instructor while watching their video. You can also send files by message, so you can use them for class.” — SA
  • “Easy to make reservations. Customer support was polite and quick and, even if there was a problem, they were able to respond immediately.” — H

Fun and motivating

  • “It’s become fun to talk. Now I can watch an American drama, understand it, and use the phrases that come up. I’m no longer nervous about talking to natives.” — Saya
  • “[I noticed my progress when] I was able to understand it when I saw the news in English.” — Baygun
  • “Beyond just more confidence in English, I feel that I have become accustomed to challenging myself and have become more motivated to say whatever I want to say.” — Yuko
  • “It’s only been a week, but I’m already used to it and it’s easier to talk!” — Kirin

Easy to see my progress

  • “[I recognized how much I had improved] when I felt that 30 minutes was short, when I was able to convey to my own students knowledge about American culture and the current state of America that I had never known before.” — Runtakatan
  • “Even I, who is shy, can speak on Cambly at any time. The tutors support me and teach me words I don’t know in an easy-to-understand manner.” — Uta
  • “After studying for a while, I went back and watched my old lesson videos; I could hardly understand or speak English at all. Looking back helps me see that my English is definitely better now than before. My listening ability, which I was not particularly good at, naturally improved and my TOEIC listening score increased by 200 points in half a year.” — Zack

Tons of tutors to work with

  • “There are many tutors who are easy to talk to. Also, since everyone is native, I like the fact that they teach not only language practice but also the culture of the country they are based in.” — Sakiko
  • “I was able to get used to English in various countries because I could talk to different tutors every time.” — Yoshi
  • “Many of the tutors are native and experienced. I also like the fact that you can choose the instructor by their accent.” -Yuta
  • “You can talk to natives. Non-native tutors can’t teach subtle nuances and pacing, but Cambly’s tutors are all native.” — Ele
  • “Free English conversation is possible instead of routine learning. When and if they want them, students can receive lesson suggestions.” — Mimi
