Sometimes I’d Like More Equal, Fuller Tits

Welcome to the first of a 10-part cambyo insights series exploring aspects of body image and sexual exploration that we discovered with our 500 person survey on the future of love and sex. More info on it here. We partnered up with Virginia Alonso Navarro to share these findings through a combination of art and science.

We will start our exploration into body image by focusing on breasts today. 91% of women are unhappy with their bodies and everywhere we look, there are breasts. TV’s, magazines, billboards, and diamond covered breasts at the Oscars; it’s incredibly difficult not to be affected by Western society’s ‘ideal’ of full breasts. Breast augmentation is the #1 surgical procedure performed for women between 19 and 34 years of age; 132,000 breast enlargements are performed each year in the US. And this number isn’t declining, the annual number of breast augmentations has tripled in the past eight years.

We want to expand the concept of what beauty is. Much like diversity is more complex than merely skin color or gender identity, beauty is more than someone’s purely physical manifestation. If you want to explore this concept on a deeper, more personal level, you can read our story 28 Years of Fighting My Body, where our friend Giulia gives you an insider’s perspective at her challenges with an eating disorder and breast implants.
