PRESS RELEASE 27.7.21

THE DRUMMOND STREATERY PROJECT INVITES YOU TO ITS FREE SUMMER STREET PARTY, THURSDAY 5th AUGUST, WITH LIVE MUSIC FROM BBC ASIAN NETWORK DJ, AJD, RIKA, H DHAMI, BOLLYWOOD DANCING from BOLLYWOOD Co. AND MORE!

JULY 2021 // Following its launch last month, The Drummond Streatery project, a collaborative effort between Euston Town BID, Drummond Street traders, Jan Kattein Architects and Camden Council, is thrilled to invite all corners of London to its summer street party, Thursday 5th August, from 6:30–9:30pm.

Open to the public, the Drummond Streatery Summer Street Party is just a stone’s throw from Euston Square Station, Great Portland Street and Warren Street. The road will be closed to traffic encouraging all to head down and celebrate the revival of one of London’s oldest food hubs. Alongside food from the rich and culturally diverse businesses spanning from South Asian to Turkish, partiers will be able to celebrate and dance, with a music set from internationally renowned DJ and BBC Asian Network presenter, AJD, rising contemporary crossover artist RIKA and Bhangra star H Dhami. Henna artists will be on site to adorn guests, there will be Bollywood dancers from Bollywood Co and of course, exceptional food from the street’s famous traders.

The Drummond Streatery launched last month to welcome in the London summer for a season of outdoor eating and rediscovery of some of London’s best independent and family run authentic restaurants, including many of the capital’s oldest South Asian restaurants.

As well as full menus at all participating restaurants, including world famous vegetarian food at Ravi Shankar and legendary nihari at Raavi Kebab, launching in time for the Drummond Streatery Street Party is the Drummond Street Taster menu with every restaurant offering their star dish as a £5 special. Drummond Street taster dishes include: from Gupta’s — snack plate of samosas, vegetable cutlets and pakoras; Diwana — mini deluxe dosas and Raavi Kebab — Mini mince kebab, mutton tikka and chicken tikka with tandoori naan.

Set to be an evening to remember celebrating a resilient community of businesses that have survived years of disruption from local construction, the party marks a new summer of fun for Drummond Street: a place characteristic of London’s true diversity and range and a taste of so much of the world all on one road.

AJD, BBC Asian network and DJ said: “The whole world has been through a terrible time over the past 18 months, and this is the perfect celebration to reignite our need for culture and delicious food as well as mark our renewed sense of community through support. — Can’t wait to see you all out in full force!”

Georgie Street, a represetative from Euston Town working on the project said, “Despite the challenges Drummond Street has faced, this group of traders remain dedicated to theirpassion. We are thrilled that they are able to serve local communities again, with the added festival-esque street furniture that shows this street is starting a new and very exciting chapter.”

The Drummond Street Vision

The Drummond Street Vision regeneration scheme intends to celebrate and preserve the character and identity of the neighbourhood’s independent businesses who have been impacted by HS2 construction and the recent lockdowns. Euston Town BID partnered with Camden Council to commission Jan Kattein as the lead architects following being awarded a record sum from HS2’s Business & Local Economy Fund, matched by Euston Town BID.

Euston Town Business Improvement District is funded by businesses in the area who pay a membership levy, which is then used to leverage further funding for ambitious projects that enhance the public realm and improve the trading environment.
