Arrival day was a week today which is CRAZY!
Can the summer slow down please?! As we are full force into the summer now, there has been a lot of different and exciting events, trips and activities happening across camp.
Here’s a couple of our favorite things!
Ledges
On their very first OPT trip of the season, bunk 18 out of the Utes went on a morning hike to Ledges. Taking a yellow school bus through the winding roads of Equinunk the sun shone through the trees, making it even more enjoyable for the campers. It was hot, but that didn’t stop the campers who were almost racing to the top to enjoy a beautiful view, tens of thousands tree tops stretching off into the horizon, winding up, down and all around. Gently swaying in the summer trees.
There was a gasp when they got to the top! The hike was so worth it. They sat down and snacked on Pop Tarts and Oreos while admiring the scenic view. After a few pictures, (you can’t have a view like this and not take photos!?) they headed back down to get lunch back at camp.
Intercamp Basketball Game — Sioux’s and Algonquins
There was some great energy from the Sioux and Algonquin divisions today. Campers in the basketball team played in a friendly game against another camp near IHC. On the IHC Lake Basketball Court, all the Algonquin’s and Sioux’s huddled together for a quick motivating talk before heading out to the game.
‘S-U-P-E-R, super Sioux’s that’s what we are!’
All the girls stood in their positions whilst proudly wearing their IHC tops. Ready… steady… GO! The girls jumped into action for the ball. Out of nowhere, one of the Algonquin’s tackled the ball out of the opposite team’s grip. She was getting closer to the basket and then… SCORE! The whole of the IHC team screamed with joy at their first point of the game. Oh yea IHC!
The enthusiasm and team spirit that came from the girls was so awesome and they’re so excited for the next game. BRING IT ON!
Egglympics
A special event was planned by program for the hill campers to really get their thinking caps on. One egg was given to each team to protect over the day. One team covered their egg in cotton wall while the others wrapped it in cloths and tissues. As the hill campers dropped the eggs to see which shields were the best… silence fell. Who knew they could be this quiet!? As each egg fell, every camper stared to see the result. The anticipation was intense. Most eggs broke except for ones securely wrapped in every material under the sun. Rumor has it, it was a cracking day. Oh wow, we went there!
Camp Fire
All of camp came together to celebrate the first official camp fire. All campers sat on the logs or laid back onto their crazy creeks (we secretly all wish we had one of these!). Dave kick started camp fire with his famous sing along songs, where every past camper, camper, and staff returner know the words off by heart and belt along. As this was Tribe West’s last campfire before heading out on their trip, Dave dedicated the song “Leaving on a Jet Plane” by John Denver to wish them good luck. We’ll miss you at Campfire Tribe West!
The CITS ran the rest of campfire with the first break out of the summer. Project Morry has now officially started and the CITS introduced the fundraiser to everybody. They sung, danced, and prepared a short video that explained all about Project Morry and why it is so essential to help them out which really pulled the heart strings of the crowd. We are so proud of the CITS!
That’s all for now folks!
