“Why is there never any money, Butch?”

Let’s talk about one of our new Lake Camp games this summer, Gold Rush! To keep the campers on their toes, the program team made this new, exciting event to add a little twist to the normal camp day.

Let’s find out what happened…

To start the day off, lower camp came together for a quick dance off with the famous and awesome wobble song. Both boys and girls danced their butts off to try and get the first points of the day for their teams. The boys did an awesome job by the way!

After flagpole, it was time to get it all started, program shouted down the mic “1, 2, 3….. Yeeeeeeehaaaaaa! The campers were off! You could hear the splitter splatter of feet as campers scattered around the camp, searching high and low for the gold and bronze stones to hide in their treasure chests. Each rock added to the teams points with the bronze rocks earning even more bonus points.

Suddenly, from the distance,“I’VE FOUND A BRONZE STONE!!”. Girls side stormed up the Lagoon stairs with the first bronze stone in the event. Go girls!! They were awarded 10 points.

While looking for the treasure, activities were held around camp which gave campers the opportunity to earn even more points for their teams. The Warriors hopped around in a sack race while the Braves dived into a game of American Football. The atmosphere intensified as the boys cheered each other on to win the Gold Rush American Football game. The Braves smashed it of course, earning themselves an extra 6 points! An extra point was awarded for spirit too.

Meanwhile in the dance studio, our youngest campers where asked to scream their chant as loud as they could. The girls screamed so loud that they could be heard from the boys bunkline! Woah!

Gold and bronze rocks were being found left, right and centre until… “GIVE ME THOSE GOLD ROCKS”. The bandits were approaching fast towards boys side. They had to think quickly before bandits took their treasure. Remembering what Program had said, the boys huddled together to protect their only stone. Luckily, the bandits couldn’t get the stone and moved onto the next team. PHEW!

After a busy hour, the teams all ran back to the Lagoon to hand in all of their stones and extra point slips for the program team to count up.

The votes were in. One bunk from every division was called a named Champion of the IHC Gold Rush Event. Wahoooooo!

The first camp event is now done and dusted. We’ll see you at the next one! Well done Lower Lake.
