Yesterday was the day where the whole of lake side headed over to Allentown, PA for the trip of the summer, Dorney Park! With hundreds of arcade games, rides, water rides and shops, campers had the chance to let loose and really have fun. Yesterday was one of the best visits to that park yet.

At 6:00am on Tuesday morning, lower lake camp were woken up to start getting ready for the trip ahead. “It’s time to get excited because it’s Dorney Park day!” Some campers were even up and dressed before 6:00am because they were so excited! We just love the spirit!

As the whole of lake camp headed up to the bus, each camper was handed a breakfast bag to munch on while heading over to Dorney Park. All that could be heard over the bus was campers swapping and exchanging the flavors of their Gatorades. Lets be honest… Blue is the best!

After chilling for around two hours on the bus, we finally could see Steel Force, Talon and Possessed Peak out from the behind the trees in the distance. As soon as the campers spotted the rides, there was cheers, screams, and squeaks echoing the bus. Everybody started discussing which order they were going to go on each ride to make sure their route was most effective.

Obviously Steel Force was first.

We grabbed our things and made a run to the entrance. “We only have five hours, we have to hurry!” The Dorney Park sign came into eyesight which made the children even more excited. We got our tickets and headed through to the park. Like Cheetahs, the groups were sprinting to their first rides. We only have five hours remember! Most groups headed towards one of the biggest rides at the park…. STEEL FORCE! As we edged closer, the campers eyes widened at the size of the ride. They joined the queue and waited patiently to get on.

One of the Upper Lake girls was too scared to go on the ride last year, but this year she was brave enough to try it for her last time at Dorney Park. As the barrier closed and the ride started, her friends chanted her on to give her the boost she needed. She gripped onto the hand rail and disappeared out of eye sight as the ride climbed up the rails. Before we knew it, the ride was back from it’s trail and all could be seen was a beaming smile coming from the camper. As soon as she got off the ride, she jumped into the arms of her friends and was so relieved she had conquered the biggest ride at Dorney Park. YOU GO GIRL!

Throughout the day, campers of all ages could be seen on all the rides from the Rush cars for the Sioux’s and Hydro for the older, adrenaline junkie campers. There was something for everyone! As the hours went by, the sun got stronger and hotter which only meant one thing… WATER RIDES! The kids zoomed down the slides, enjoying the water to cool down. One of the main rides all the campers loved was the famous Log Flume. As soon as the ride came to the BIG slide, all of the campers closed their eyes as they plummeted into the water. A huge gush of water jumped into the air and soaked the boat including the campers. It was a great way to cool down though!

After all the fun, it was time to re-energize and grab some grub. Most, if not all campers eat chicken selects for lunch. We’re surprised they didn’t turn into a chicken!

To end the perfect day, all the campers came together to play some arcade games. Most won some basketballs and stuff animals, but there’s always one who wins a massive teddy bear bigger than the size of them. Always one…

After a crazy, busy, but fun day it was time to head back to Camp IHC.

Until next year folks…
