Welcome to The IHC Insider, where we will be giving a run down of what happened at camp throughout the summer, so all you readers can imagine you’re here with us!

This week was probably the most important week of the summer, as our campers arrived!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HEAR MORE ABOUT OUR ARRIVAL DAY READ OUR ARRIVAL DAY ARTICLE BELOW:

Our Hill Campers started their summer off with a new event this week, HILL RAISIN’. It brought this years Hill Campers into camp life with a bang! Split into different colored teams, each raced through a number of activities, battling through intense pickleball tournaments, volleyball competitions and a speed stacking cup challenge. Each team also designed a flag to represent them, followed by a tug of war competition! And that was just before lunch…

The games continued after lunch, when the flags were presented to the judges before the final event of the day, the relay… finished off with the slip n flip competition and a counselor lip sync battle, fun all around on the hill this week.

On Lake Camp this week we had our first Spirit Flagpole of the summer! A favorite evening activity by so many of our campers, Lake Camp used their bunk line free play to prepare for the big event and we all made our way to The Garden, where we were joined by dinosaurs, aliens and some pop princesses!

The Rookies kicked us off with plenty of spirit, and we enjoyed multiple renditions of Taylor Swift songs, Sweet Caroline and Can’t Take my Eyes Off You for our division songs! Joel’s hand was ready to rank each division accordingly, until the ultimate decision resulted in a Graduate Girl win!! The oldest of the bunch know exactly what they were doing, that’s for sure!

We also had our first Big/Little Ice Cream Social this week! This evening activity allows our graduates to meet with their little Rookies/Explorers and spend some time together, with an ice cream in hand of course!

It’s Friday night, and we all know what that means… Friday Night Campfire!!

This is the first Friday Night Campfire of the Summer, and we couldn’t be more excited! Tonight we were saying goodbye to our IHC West campers, who are setting off West on Tuesday, meaning we won’t be together again as one community until our last campfire of the summer! Luckily we all have plenty of fun to have before then!

Our Campfire this week was dedicated to the memory of our camper Blake Buchbinder. His bunkmates and his sister Lexie read aloud a touching speech about Blake and their memories together. Blake’s passing has left an indescribable mark on the hearts of the IHC community and we will continue to honor Blake and hold his memory close to our hearts.

After our 1 minute of silence, we sang together to wish our IHC Wester’s safe travels as they set off for the trip of a lifetime, with a Dave Tager rendition of Leaving on a Jet plane of course!!

To finish off the week, we had our first theatre production of the summer! Our Graduates and Hill Campers kicked the Creative Arts department off with a bang, in their musical rendition of Matilda!

Lake Camp, Hill Camp and the Village all headed to the dance studio to support the cast, and what a treat it was. The show was incredible and everyone was so impressed at the talent on display and we all had a great night at the Theatre!

Keep your eyes peeled for a show recap and review coming soon!!

That’s a wrap on week 1!!
