It’s that time of the year again. The blue, red, and white decorations are all brought out to fill the grounds of IHC. Each camper looks like a walking American flag with their merchandise and outfits. Headbands, tutu’s, tattoos, stickers, bracelets, necklaces and sunglasses can be seen EVERYWHERE. I mean, this is what the 4th of July is all about!

From the moment campers arrived at morning flagpole, the spirit rose higher and higher. Activities were scattered around camp ranging from wacky water activities to games of baseball on Citi field. Each division went down the wacky water slide, splashing into the lake whilst others enjoyed America’s favorite pastime… Baseball! Mike Trout would be proud.

After a filling lunch of mac and cheese and BBQ chicken, the camp headed down the bunk line for the first ever Camp IHC Fourth of July PARADE!. Woo! All the campers waited patiently down the bunk line. Whispers from excited campers filled the air until… The sounds from a fire engine echoed through camp. Head counselors participated in the parade by standing on the golf carts and firetruck. Each golf cart had a different theme with counselors dressed up in costumes. All the children followed the last car of the parade right up to Wembley. But, what was up there?

To the campers surprise, at the top of Wembley, FOAM spewed all over the grass ready for the campers to come and play. As soon as the boys and girls saw what was there, they jumped right into the foam and disappeared into the cloud. It. was. so. cool.

While the campers were having their fun, out of nowhere two fireworks blew out in the distance. All the campers turned around… Was this a break-out?!

IT WAS! SING 2019 had officially started. Team Marvel, Team The 80’s and Team Indiana Jones were created. The CITS roles were announced one by one which caused a wave of screams.

There was even a hint in the Parade costumes which were all the past themes of Sing combined, no-one noticed but it was SO obvious!

To end this patriotic and magical day, each camper was given a firecracker ice pop to enjoy while watching the impressive firework display. The whole camp gathered together on the lake beach to see all the different colors light up the sky.

After each pop, you could hear campers and counselors going “Ahhhhhh” and “Ooooooohhhhhh” Trust us, the fireworks were THAT GOOD!

As the fireworks came to an end, everyone linked arms and sang “Blue lakes around and blue skies above.. IHC” What a great way to end a great day.

We hope everybody had an amazing 4th of July and we will see you next year!
