Nìshó

It was the last day of exams. Freedom at last.

She walked to The Wall again. All term long, she had been intrigued by it. It was a mosaic of sign-outs and cryptic messages, even a Latin quote, engraved by generations of students.

She knew some of them by heart.

“Rixy was eir- ‘79.”

“Titi❤️Tito4Eva.”

“FK to the world.”

“No more loss.”

“GCSS is my alma mater.”

“Veni. Vidi. Vici.”

“Peace+Love.”

“Jah Bless.”

“Forget me not.”

She had resisted the urge to sign on it all term long. She always thought, would anyone ever notice? But today, she reached for the compass in her Math Set. It was a symbolic time for her, this moment in her life. She was crossing over into a new phase. In keeping with that, she decided no additional embellishments were necessary. Her name was sufficient and she engraved it there.

“Nìshó.”
