Ms Allison proceeds to discipline the entire class for noisemaking but is interrupted by Nayo. Nayo is one of her taciturn students.
“Excuse me ma. I have something to tell you,” Nayo opens, his hand still raised.
“Prep hour” is meant for studying, but Tolude and Mark have spent the last hour unfairly making sport of some of their classmates, stirring up roars of laughter from members of their clique.
The preys bow their heads on their desks, broken and feckless.
“I wrote the names of noisemakers,” he continues, determined. Ms Allison asks him to come forward, a sheet of paper in his hands.
He can see the light return to the eyes of his just-bullied classmates.
