What exactly is a summer pudding?

Oh… summer pudding…
it’s a classic British dessert.
it makes use of fresh summer fruits
and stale white bread.

I see…
So, what kind of fruits are used…
to make a summer pudding?

Well… all sorts of fruits and berries…
Berries — for instance…
blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries
are cooked in sugar with orange liqueur
to make a lovely deep purple syrup.

Right… the syrup…

Yes, the syrup is spooned over white bread
and left to soak for several hours.
The result is berry soaked bread and berries.
I like to serve this simple dessert with a creme…
or French vanilla custard sauce.
You can also use melted vanilla ice cream.

Are there any other types of puddings?
I mean… other than a summer pudding?

Yes, there are…
Plenty of those…
You can even make a pudding cake.

Really? A cake?

Yes, a cake.
If you are looking for a quick and easy dessert…
then I highly recommend this berry pudding cake.
It is delicious…
it can be served hot,
or at room temperature.

Great…
If you do prepare the pudding ahead of time
and want to serve it hot,
simply reheat it up in the oven
for about 20 minutes before serving.

All right.
So, what kind of berries do you use?

I recommend…
a combination of blueberries and raspberries
but, actually, any type of fruits can be used.
I often make it with fresh cherries.

Great. Looks delicious.
Thanks for sharing these tips.

No problem.
