Canadians Are Abandoning Their Pets at an Alarming Rate
Rising costs are forcing pet owners to make heartbreaking decisions
As most pet owners would tell you, their pet is part of the family.
This is certainly how I feel about my two-year-old, overly fluffy, Aussie Doodle named Ponzo.
I love him to bits.
I miss him when he’s not around. I buy him an unnatural amount of toys. I want to take him on all the walks possible.
I never want to see him suffer. When he’s sad or scared, my heart breaks.
If I wasn’t able to buy him healthy food, pay for his care, or give him the life he deserves, it would be devastating.
But with the rising costs of pet food, supplies, veterinary care, and groceries and housing costs in general, caring for Ponzo takes more and more of our disposable income each month.

In fact, 60% of pet-owners in Canada are concerned about the rising pet care costs and 52% feel that the cost of pet-related goods has risen more than their own grocery and personal care items.
So what do you do when costs rise to the point where you can’t afford your pet anymore? When you can’t cut back…
