Making a major life decision is almost always daunting, but by asking yourself two key questions, you can simplify the process and ensure that you’re making a well-informed choice. These two questions will not only help you improve the quality of your life but also secure your future:

  • Will this decision help to make my “Quality of life” better?
  • Will it help to “Secure my future”?

In this article, we will explore these two questions in detail and show you how to make a decision that takes both factors into account.

By answering these questions, you can gain clarity and confidence in your decision-making process, ultimately leading to a happier and more fulfilling life.

If you’re contemplating moving to Canada or to any foreign country, these two questions are particularly relevant for you. Relocating to a new country is challenging, but answering these questions will help you make the right decision for your future.

Quality of Life

A fulfilling life is not just about what you do, but also what you don’t have to do. ~ Mantosh

Having a good quality of life means having the ability to make decisions that make you happy and fulfilled. It could be anything from pursuing a new career to starting a family.

However, it’s also important to note that having a better quality of life also means having access to resources that lessen your burden, provide you comfort, and most importantly allow you to spend more time and energy on those things that you truly enjoy.

For instance, if you’re moving to a new country and suddenly have to do all the household chores and you are not used to it, then this is definitely going to make you very unhappy. Therefore, it’s important to consider the following before you make a major decision:

  • Will this decision increase my overall happiness and fulfilment? Will it allow me to do whatever I want?
  • Will it provide me with resources that will make my life easier and more comfortable?

For example, if you enjoy just laying around and spending leisure time as I do, it’s important to make sure you have the resources and means to do so without even feeling guilty or stressed about it.

By answering these two above questions, you can determine whether a decision is truly in line with improving the quality of your life.

Securing Your Future

Every decision you make should lead you towards a better future. You should know where you want to go.

Securing your future is another crucial aspect of living a happy and fulfilling life. It means taking steps to ensure that you, your loved ones, and your assets are protected from financial, personal, and physical risks.

To achieve this, you need to strike a balance between taking calculated risks and making changes. Consider the following:

  • Will this decision put my financial or physical security at unnecessary risk?
  • Will it create instability in my personal life or family relationships?

For instance, let’s assume, you’re contemplating relocating to Canada from India for professional reasons.

Before you do so, you must first weigh the benefits and drawbacks of this decision with regard to the two questions above. While relocating to Canada might lead to a lucrative career and personal growth, it will also result in additional expenses and potentially social isolation.

Should You Prioritize Quality of Life or Future Security?

When it comes to making a major life decision, ideally, you’ll like it to support both your quality of life and secure your future. But, sometimes we need to prioritize one over the other, depending on our age, circumstances, and responsibilities.

If you are a young adult with no major responsibilities, it will be worth sacrificing some of your current quality of life to invest in your future. By making a calculated sacrifice now, you can secure a better future for yourself in the long run.

On the other hand, if you are at a more advanced age with significant responsibilities that comes with family and dependents, having a good quality of life might take priority over securing your future.

Ultimately, the answers to those questions will depend on your unique situation, and it’s important to choose what’s best for you.
