Since President Obama announced Joe would be at the helm of mission control of the Cancer Moonshot initiative, we’ve been traveling across the country, hearing directly from top researchers, doctors, nurses, fighters and survivors.

At the University of California, San Francisco, Joe and I toured the research labs and held a roundtable discussion:

In New Orleans, we visited with doctors and nurses at the University Medical Center New Orleans:

And in Boston, I sat down with an inspiring group of patient advocates at PatientsLikeMe:

Today, we’re bringing together cancer fighters and survivors, their caretakers and the researchers in the labs, the philanthropists, community oncologists and patient advocates for a Cancer Moonshot Summit to discuss how cancer affects them, share input for the Moonshot Initiative, generate ideas about how individuals and organizations can drive the national effort, and create ideas for new collaborations and actions.

There are currently over 270 events to be held across the country, with over 6,000 participants. Go to WH.gov/cancermoonshot to watch live and to be part of the conversation. Use the hashtag #CanServe to share your story or your idea on how to break down barriers to progress, or catalyze change where you live or work on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.

It’s going to take all of us — a nation-wide commitment bringing together our best and brightest — to make our dream of ending cancer as we know it, a reality.

I hope you’ll join us.

— Jill
