Miami Beach is blessed with its seven mile stretch of sandy beaches, top notch recreational facilities and extensive network of parks. But make no mistake: the City of Miami Beach recognizes the need to balance year-round outdoor fun with serious sun-safety habits.

In partnership with Destination Brands International (MB Suncare manufacturer) and Mount Sinai Medical Center, the city is taking an active role in reversing the rising tide of skin cancer by now offering free SPF 30 sunscreen in many public areas. Fifty sunscreen dispensers citywide are now available at lifeguard stands, public pools and parks.

As the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, skin cancer impacts five million people each year and costs $8.1 billion in treatment. Most skin cancers can be prevented with appropriate sun protection that includes applying sunscreens with broad spectrum protection (against both UVA and UVB rays) and with a SPF value of 30 or higher.

Miami Beach sunscreen dispensers are filled with MB Triple Action Sea Kelp Sunscreen lotion, a water resistant, broad spectrum SPF 30. Sea kelp helps to replenish proteins and minerals lost in the sun, firm the appearance of the skin and protects against photo-aging with its natural sunscreen properties.

In response to the Vice President Joe Biden’s Cancer Moonshot call to action, Miami Beach is dedicated to continuing its sunscreen dispenser program for at least the next five years to help achieve a decade or more of cancer prevention progress in half the time.

As the sun and fun capital of the world, millions engage in a plethora of outdoor offerings on our urban-island — from relaxing on our internationally-renowned beaches to enjoying our many parks — and we will ensure these recreational activities are being enjoyed safely by maintaining our free sunscreen dispensers citywide.
