Cast.

Cast into the world,

sunlight over the horizon at dawn,

eclipsing the world each day.

A hail Mary of love, laughter, spontaneity

we are cast,

with all the focus and guidance of a ethereal smoke ring,

from atop the veranda,

the great cumulative work

of the mothers and sisters,

the fathers and the brothers,

we are cast proud,

fresh into the world to paint it in our image.

Only to find that our smoke-like existence imparts on us neither the time

nor the solidity to impact that painting,

other then as one partial stroke,

amongst an endless whirlwind of smoke-rings.

Cast to our demise amongst the winds and the rains,

to amount to nothing except that smoke-less trail left in our wake.

Felt not as a presence,

but rather as an absence,

we are cast
