Day 3. Makers Academy. RSpec Exception Issues.
OK, so today has been hard as I had to return to Bristol for a hospital appointment, and simply being away for just one day really effects what you can learn and I do not recommend anyone misses a day if they can help it! Although I can see activity on the communicator system SLACK, just not being to bounce thoughts and ideas off your pair programmer really knocks your confidence when you are struggling remotely.
The biggest issue I faced today was half way through our ‘boris bikes’ challenge, a statement in the challenge walkthrough states:
I decided to implement this, as it would be more efficient that typing everything up in IRB each time you wanted to feature test, however, by placing it in the spec folder as recommended, seemed to cause issues when running RSpec. I did add the code to the file feature_test.rb and when I ran the final RSpec test for Ch12 (creating a raised error, if no bikes were present in the docking station) it through up a crazy ruby error, rather than an RSpec one. (See image below). This took HOURS to rectify, so I wish they had just left this instruction out. Maybe I jumped the gun a bit.
Anyway, I have hated being out of the Academy for just one day (even during week 1!) as you loose out massively and its amazing what you can learn (or not learn!) in just one day! Thanks to those who did reply back to my messages for help on SLACK! You know who you are! :-)
