Eye on Cannabis
Finally! A Site with all the Cannabis Lab Issues in One Place!
I spent the bulk of 2022 learning about cannabis testing and cannabis labs. I explored data about potency testing, talked about lab shopping, and interviewed businesses and people impacted. I wrote extensively about what I learned through the months, hoping to put together a repository of information about the issue.
Two weeks ago, Oregon issued a recall of vape products that tested positive for pesticides.
There’s a thing in writing called the ‘inciting event,’ and for me — this was it.
I wanted to build a site focused on giving consumers news about the cannabis testing issues across the country. I wanted a place where people can communicate about issues they’ve encountered, and where I can share larger information resources about cannabis and hemp lab testing issues.
Medium’s not the place for something like that. It doesn’t have that toolset and capability, and doesn’t allow me to have the level of control I need.
That’s where EyeOnCannabis.org comes in. I will be exploring this issue in depth, and broadening my focus to include the rest of the United States. I’m going to use the platform to share news, information, and resources about cannabis and hemp testing issues.

What’s most exciting to me is the Blacklist. It’s a list of lab compliance issues compiled from public records. The list includes details on what the issue was, and what the next steps were. It’s categorized by issue type to make it easier to browse.
It’s vital that consumers have access to this information so they can make informed decisions about the cannabis items they purchase.
I will still be publishing informational articles about my work in this area here on Medium, — but the bulk of the detail about cannabis labs will be held at Eye On Cannabis.
I am looking forward to growing Eye on Cannabis into a centralized repository of information regarding these lab issues across the country.
