With the legalization of cannabis we can expect a lot of changes in the world of medical counseling. The possibilities with cannabis are endless and we are learning more and more about how we can use cannabis everyday since legalization.

Yesterday we met with Reilly Capps who has been writing for Rooster Magazine many years. Capps has been studying drugs and the effects of them for most of his life. He is a big advocate for the decriminalization of most drugs. He has seen first had how cannabis can impact individuals struggling with intense PTSD. Capps told us stories of cannabis therapy where an individual is alone in a room with a two or three therapists and they consume cannabis and the therapists then talk them through the experience. These individuals can be struggling with anything from PTSD due to high intense traumatic situations from being abroad in war fields to PTSD from sexual violence. Cannabis has been proven to help these individuals learn to deal with and come to terms with what they have experienced because it was very difficult for them.

Reilly Capps also spoke with us and shared information about how the decriminalization of psilocybin will be on the ballot for the city of Denver this coming may. Psilocybin is the psychoactive drug found in magic mushrooms. People have also been practicing psilocybin therapy for years now and they have seen tremendous amounts of help in this field. Another illicit drug that they have been using for therapy is MDMA and they are looking into this becoming legal in the future because there is a large underground MDMA therapy scene and it has been around for decades.

We have learned that the active parts to cannabis are both the cannabinoids and the terpenes. The terpenes are the aromas that have been used for therapeutic reasons for a long time. These aromas have medical properties to them that can help in a variety of areas. Some examples of how these terpenes are expected to help patients are like how Linalool, which can be found in lavender and other floral plants, these aromas can help aid with sedation and have calming effects. Linalool is proven to help with anxiety, depression, and stress and be all around great for patients. Another aroma Pinene, which can be found in pine trees is seen to help in areas with alertness, and memory retention. People can also use Pinene for their other medical benefits of helping with inflammation and asthma. These are just a few examples of what cannabis can help do for us as humans and how we can utilize cannabis in the best ways possible.
