We were lucky to have two more guest speakers join us in Sturm 434 in our last class session today.

The first speaker was Emmet Nelson, who is currently the Cheif Communications Officer at Center Mass Media. Center mass is a marketing firm that has recently made the transition to cannabis marketing. With the change in business model they lost some clients, as expected, but it is a step in the right direction for them.

Emmet Nelson

Previously he worked at Dope Magazine where he worked with Susannah Grossman for an issue. Feeling limited by options, due to working at a free magazine which recieves funding from ads exclusively, he left Dope Magazine and joined Center Mass Media. A change in venue gave him the ability to write creative non-fiction stories, which develop the story around an experience, and leave behind sponsored content-esque material.

Later, we were joined by Jay Daily, the CEO and owner of the brand new TokeRadio.com. The radio show was not his first job in this industry. For two years, from November 2014-January 2016, Jay was the journal editor at Cannabis Network Radio. He stated there was a falling out between him and his parter, which set him on the path to make his own radio show.

Jay Daily A.K.A Citizen Jay

It all started for Jay when he began making Youtube videos. He puts a lot of effort into making these videos and said that a 12 minute video will take about three solid hours of work. It is an impressive amount of dedication for a YouTube video. Jay said he was not as YouTube famous as he would like, but once he has his radio website moves past the ‘beta’ phase and intigrates his videos, I beleive the followers with come with more content.

Both guests had very unique perspectives on the cannabis industry. Their passion on the subject is evident in the way they speak about cannabis. Their drive, along with so many others in this industry, is one of the reasons Colorado has become the cannabis capital of the world.

Citing Sources

After the speakers Andrew went over citing sources for out paper. Citing was not a new concept to me, however I had never cited books or people for a journalism article. The only citation forms I have used before are MLA and APA. Compared to those two, this style of citation is much easier. It is nice not worrying about a works cited page aswell.

Final Paper Progress

Being able to iron out the last details of our research in class today was very helpful. I have filled out my outline, and am currently writing out my paragraphs and finding locations to add TK’s. I already have a wealth of information from Ry, but Sweet Grass tomorrow should offer a first hand encounter of banking issues. I am writing a few questions to bring with me to get a quote. The article is starting to come together as I become more informed of the banking issues in cannabis.

“I think people need to be educated to the fact that marijuana is not a drug. Marijuana is an herb and a flower. God put it here. If He put it here and He wants it to grow, what gives the government the right to say that God is wrong?”
