“The Mayor is a Drug Dealer”
How is that for a clickbait. Mason Tvert who has always played a major role in the legalization of cannabis and in changing the publics view of cannabis claims that the mayor is a drug dealer while on a national news broadcast.
The mayor he is referring to at the time is former Denver Mayor Hickenlooper. Hickenlooper is a co-founder of Wynkoop Brewing Company. He crafted and created his own beer and then took it to the market to sell. Alcohol, which is found in beer, is a mind altering drug. In this relation Hickenlooper is a drug dealer in a legal market. The rhetoric that Tvert is using here is what got the attention of the media and the people though because being considered a drug dealer is usually seen as someone who is dealing with illicit substances. Tvert used his media attention to help educate the public on how Alcohol itself is a drug just like cannabis, but also how alcohol is safer than cannabis. Which is a fact. Alcohol tends to lead to users becoming aggressive and can ultimately lead in death in some cases. While nobody has ever died from consuming too much cannabis.
Since legalization we can assume that consumption of cannabis has risen in numbers because people are being educated. Those who used to view cannabis as a harmful substance are learning that it has many medical and experiential benefits. The public is also learning that cannabis is a much safer alternative to alcohol to use and this can be majorly accredited to Mason Tvert. One example of this in everyday life is my dad, he grew up thinking that cannabis was a very harmful substance but since legalization and learning that his son was a regular cannabis user he began using cannabis for the medical benefits of a good nights sleep. In looking at the number of people coming forward about using cannabis we need to also take in to account that,
