This woman may or may not be “High”. Although, she does look relaxed.

As of March 2017, 29 states have legalized medical marijuana, while 8 states have legalized recreational marijuana. Since then there has been a growing interest in the benefits of Marijuana. Marijuana contains cannabinoids which are chemicals that may treat a range of symptoms and illnesses. Cannabinoids help regulate pleasure, memory, thinking, concentration, body movement, awareness of time, appetite, and pain. Even though the most common cannabinoids are THC and CBD, these are not the only cannabinoids responsible for the physical benefits of Marijuana.

Why Do I Feel So “High”?

The dictionary describes euphoria as “a feeling or state of intense excitement and happiness”. This is the state of most marijuana users describe feeling after ingesting marijuana. The chemical responsible for that feeling is anandamide. The term anandamide comes from Sanskrit word “ananda,” which means “joy” or “bliss.” Anandamide is an endocannabinoid responsible for cannabis’s effect on the brain’s pleasure circuitry. Anandamide can help regulate memory, motivation, movement, pain, appetite, and fertility. Feeling anxious? Anandamide is also can anti-anxiety and antidepressant agent. These are just some of the benefits of Marijuana.

CBD is the second most common cannabinoid found in marijuana. While CBD is not a psychoactive chemical is has been used to treat conditions such as Crohn’s disease. Watch below as Crohn’s patient Matthew Lonsdale describes how he treats his symptoms with CBD oil.

***This article was not written with the intentions of persuading or condoning the use of marijuana. Marijuana users must be 21 years of age in dwell within a state where consumption is legal for medical or recreational purposes.***

While there are many benefits to marijuana that users may experience, keep in mind that not everyone is guaranteed to experience the same results. If you are considering using marijuana as treatment for a medical illness, consult your doctor first. If you are using marijuana for recreational purposes start with a strain with a low dose of THC and see how your body reacts. Keep a journal detailing stains and daily dosages to monitor the effects.
