Welcome to Dancehall Tours a series where we interview artists about how cannabis plays a part in their music. ⁣

Today our host Pantason interviews Dancehall artiste Teejay. Timoy Janeyo Jones better known by his stage name Teejay hails from the Glendevon area in Montego Bay, St. James, Jamaica. He was inspired and motivated by his brothers who formed a group called C&C — all three of his brothers are musicians. He was also inspired by major international artists such as Percy Sledge, Maxi Priest, Dennis Brown, Buju Banton, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.

While many fans may envisage the life of dancehall artistes to be thrilling, rewarding and filled with possibilities as they get paid to perform at music venues across the region and world, the reality may be far from idyllic. Teejay gave his Instagram fans a glimpse at the behind the scenes life of a dancehall artiste and it reveals that to be a successful professional musician, sacrifices have to be made.
