Let’s take a closer look at what sets pure CBD isolate apart from full- and broad-spectrum CBD.

New to CBD? Navigating the CBD products on the market can be challenging. You’re looking for a safe, easy, and predictable experience, but how do you choose a product that delivers? Should you opt for full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, or CBD isolate? Let’s take a closer look at what sets these extracts apart, and why Canopy insists on using only the purest CBD isolate.

All About Extracts

Full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate come from the same place and are derived through similar processes, but do have a few key differences. All are extracted from hemp plants; neither broad-spectrum CBD nor CBD isolate contain THC, meaning neither will get you high (full-spectrum CBD is another story). Here’s what makes each of them unique.

CBD Isolate

Purest available CBD extract type

  • Tasteless and odorless
  • Consistent, accurate measures of CBD

CBD isolate is made from hemp extract that has been refined several times to produce the purest CBD product on the market. Virtually all of the plant’s other cannabinoids are removed, as are the extract’s color and flavor profiles. As CBD is the only active ingredient in the isolate, you get a consistent and predictable serving every time.

Broad-Spectrum CBD

  • Only THC is removed
  • Tastes and smells like hemp
  • Up to 100 other cannabinoids may be present

Broad-spectrum CBD is hemp extract from which only the THC has been removed. That means ~100 other cannabinoids may be present in the extract, in quantities that will vary from crop to crop. This makes it difficult to determine exactly how much CBD is delivered in each serving.

Full-Spectrum CBD

  • Still contains THC
  • Tastes and smells like hemp
  • All other cannabinoids are present, including THC

Full-spectrum CBD is hemp extract that still contains all the other cannabinoids present in the plant, including THC. Because its composition can vary widely from batch to batch, it is known to produce inconsistent experiences. You could feel a THC-related “high,” or cannabinoids interactions could block the effects of the CBD itself.

Why choose CBD isolate products?

Purity
CBD is the only active ingredient, typically at greater than 99% purity.

Safety
Serving sizes are accurate so you can explore confidently.

Consistency
The product maintains the same composition and effect every time.

Effect
With no other active cannabinoids, product effects can be clearly attributed to CBD.

Taste and smell
Isolate is flavorless and odorless, for a seamless, discreet experience.
