Beginning Code Club — 4th Grade

Wednesdays 3:30–5:00

In the Beginning Code Club the students will learn fundamentals of programming using MIT’s Scratch programming interface. We’ll build some games from the book “Super Scratch Adventures, version 2” (provided to each student and is theirs to keep). The kid’s will get to know the basics of programming, they will learn about loops, conditionals, variables and events all while building fun interactive games.

Intermediate Code Club — 5th or 6th Grade

Wednesdays 3:30–5:00

In the Intermediate Code Club the students will learn the language of the internet. JavaScript is a great introductory language to learn. It allows a developer to build games, web applications, mobile applications and even server side applications. We will start from the fundamentals of JavaScript, learning it’s types, we will learn a bit about HTML and CSS and build a game or two. The club will get into jQuery, interacting with the DOM touch on object-oriented programming and build a game using canvas. We will be using the book “JavaScript for Kids: A Playful Introduction to Programming” (provided to each student and is theirs to keep) to help us get through all of these topics.

This is our second year of Code Club at Canyon Creek and I’m excited to have our intermediate club starting this year. I’m excited to learn from each of your children and to see what their minds can come up with. Learning to program is no different than learning a second language, and as they learn to solve problems and to build applications, they will find that the only limit will be that of their own imaginations.

Code Club will begin on September 13th. To reserve a place for your child please fill out the signup sheet
