Three programming languages that helped Bill Gates to create Microsoft
William Henry Gates was born on 28 October 1955, in Seattle, Washington. As the principal founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates is one of the most influential and richest people on the planet. Recent estimates of his wealth put it at US$84.2 billion.
Basic
It is the first programming language that he learned at 13-years-old. He taught himself to programme in Basic, making a simple Tic, Tac, Toe game.
Fortran
Gates translated his programming skills into business ventures while he was still in high school. He used Fortran, another programming language, to create Traf-O-Data. Paul Allen explained: “If it hadn’t been for our Traf-O-Data venture … you could definitely argue that Microsoft might not have happened.”
Lisp
By the time he went off to Harvard — and dropped out after less than two years — Gates already had a wealth of programming experience. He’d founded a company, he’d created code for government agencies, and he’d taught himself numerous programming languages. One of them was Lisp. As Gates later said: “Self-exploration is great because you develop a sense of self-confidence.”
