What do you call a VC with six fingers?

…Six Digit Capital?

Firstly, look at this:

Its a little prosthetic thumb that you attach to your hand and control with a foot pedal. The creator, Dani Clode, was inspired to make it by the Greek origin of the word Prosthesis, which means “to add” and not “to replace”. What a time to be alive.

But it also got me thinking about how VCs differentiate themselves to entrepreneurs, and others in the tech community.

VCs often (rightly) get asked how their fund is differentiated from all the other VCs in the market. And to be honest I think a lot of VCs aren’t differentiated in any meaningful way. After reading a few interviews with VCs you can quickly see a pattern emerging around the same contrived answers: “network”… “help with [delete as appropriate] strategy/recruitment/funding/internationalisation” … “entrepreneurs who have been there before” etc.

At Oxford Capital, we understand what really makes a difference for Entrepreneurs. We like to differentiate by being friendly, open, approachable, quick to deliver a decision and most of all by having 20% extra manual capacity, thanks to our six-fingered hand prostheses = 20% larger capacity for value add!!!

Joking aside(although the prosthesis mentioned in the article above is undeniably awesome in its uselessness), I’d be really interested to hear from Entrepreneurs about what they really look for in a VC — do get in touch!
